About Us

The Bourke Family Glenlo Hotel Galway Ireland

Peggy & John Bourke first bought Glenlo Abbey Hotel Galway in 1984 when it was a run-down country estate and working farm. They began their restoration programme in 1988 and eventually opened up Glenlo Abbey as a 20 bedroom Galway hotel in 1992. Glenlo Abbey extended its bedrooms to 46 within a two year period and the Bourke’s continued to add on facilities such as the Golf Course & Driving Range, The Pavilion and eventually the Pullman Restaurant aboard the Orient Express. The next piece of the overall project is the Spa which is currently under development. Peggy and John have three children who are all involved in the business, John Henry, Geraldine & Brian. Today Glenlo Abbey Hotel is a luxury 5 star hotel in Galway, hosting weddings, conferences and relaxing breaks for guests visiting the West of Ireland.
